Biographical Info Bob Mauro started boxing at age 4 under the instruction of his father Frank Mauro. He wrestled in High school and did freestyle wrestling during his college years. Began his martial arts training later and eventually settled at Tracy's Karate school. Earning his black belt from Trent Perri. He opened up the U.S. Karate Academy in Long Island, New York in 1983. It is a full-time martial arts school that is still open today. Bob met Joe Lewis and began studying directly under him since 1975 and earned my black belt in the Joe Lewis Fighting Systems, He currently holds an 8th-degree Black Belt in the Joe Lewis Fighting System. In his fight career as a professional Kickboxer, Bob fought in 3 different weight classes. He held titles in the USKBA & USKI welterweight division and superlightweight division before retiring from the ring at the age of 42 years old. Bob Mauro was the captain of 2 martial arts teams. The New York Nightlife team (owned by New York Nightlife Magazine) and the Power-up International karate team in the '80s. He was also the coach along with Ray Thompson of the World Combat League "Philadelphia Fire". (owned by Chuck Norris) Bob Mauro has produced many professional and amateur fighters including many world champions. Such as David Buglione, Derek Panza, Javier Salinas, Tyrone Smith, Derrick Oldensmith, Michelle Delgiorno, and Kickboxing and Boxing world champion Chris Algieri. He was voted the fight trainer of the year 3 times by the JLFS Board of Directors. Bob is also a certified trainer of Rock Steady Boxing (for Parkinson disease patients) He is the chief instructor at U.S. Karate Academy in Island Park, New York. The U.S. Karate Academy is a Joe Lewis fighting systems lifetime training center of which he is the Executive Director.
