Tom Updegrove
Biographical Info My Karate training started in 1965 with Tony Marasa & Jim Scott at the Seiken Karate School. In 1967 I started training Jiu Jitsu with Dr Stomackin at the Philadelphia Jiu Jitsu Club. After two Army years from 1968 to 1970 I met Ray Klingenberg at the Cottman Av. Tracy's Karate Studio. Shortly, after that Joe Lewis taught his first Karate seminar for Tracy's. In that same year 1971 I was awarded Black Belt by Joe Lewis, Ray Klingenberg, Al T& Jim Tracy. The East Coast branch of Tracy's Karate disintegrated by 1973 and became the American Karate Studios. I owned a franchise of AKS until I opened under the name "Martial Posture". From 1976 to 1980 I pursued a degree in Exercise Science at Temple University and during that time I met Ed Parker. Knowing he was the King of Kenpo I asked to be his student and in the succeeding years earned my 3rd, 4th & 5th degree Black Belts from Mr. Parker and was an active member of the IKKA until his death in 1990.
